What’s a "FOR TIME" workout?
or Time is a classic workout format where you complete a set amount of work as fast as possible.
The clock starts when you do – and stops only when you’ve finished all your reps or rounds.
It’s you vs. the clock.
No pacing, no excuses, just pure effort until the last rep.
This format builds mental toughness, speed, and efficiency, pushing you to move fast without losing form.
Fun fact:
“For Time” workouts started as a way for CrossFit athletes to measure performance under pressure – the faster you finish, the fitter you are. Some of the most famous CrossFit benchmarks like “Fran” and “Grace” are For Time workouts.
EMOM Workout Example:
“10-1 Ladder” For Time
Complete the following as fast as possible:
10 Kettlebell Swings
10 Push-Ups
9 Kettlebell Swings
9 Push-Ups
…continue down to 1 rep each.
Start the timer, move fast, and record your finish time.
